Step-by-Step: Changing Brother Toner

Step 1: Open the Front Cover

Locate the front cover of your Brother printer. It's usually on the front of the machine. Pull the cover towards you to open it. The toner cartridges will be visible inside.

Step 2: Remove the Old Toner Cartridge

1. Locate the toner cartridge you want to replace (they're labelled with colour or position)
2. Grasp the handle on the toner cartridge
3. Pull the cartridge straight out towards you
4. Place the old cartridge on a flat surface (toner can stain)

Step 3: Prepare the New Toner Cartridge

1. Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging
2. Shake the cartridge side-to-side 5-6 times to distribute the toner evenly
3. Remove the protective cover (usually a plastic strip or paper)
4. Do not touch the green drum surface - this can damage the cartridge

2. Push the cartridge firmly into place until you hear a click

Step 5: Close the Front Cover

Close the front cover firmly. The printer will automatically detect the new cartridge and begin the initialization process. Wait for the printer to warm up (about 30 seconds).

Step 6: Reset the Toner Counter

Some Brother printers require you to reset the toner counter after replacing the cartridge:

1. Open the front cover (leave it open)
2. Press Back and Cancel buttons together for 3 seconds
3. Select the toner position you replaced
4. Select Reset
5. Close the front cover
